Lilly at the Twin Towers Memorial

Mum, Dad and I are on holiday in New York City, USA. We have seen lots of awesome things. The other day we went to the World Trade Centre Memorial. This remembers the 2,893 people that were killed on 11 September 2001 when terrorists attacked America.

The memorial was beautiful, with everyone's name written on the side of the twin pools, which were exactly where the twin towers stood. Being at the memorial was very sad, because all those innocent people died because of this horrible attack.

This is important, because a lot of Army kid's have had a mum or dad that has served in Afghanistan, which was caused by the attack on the twin towers. We didn't seem any names we knew, but we felt very sad for all the families that had lost someone special.

We saw a tree called the 'survival tree' that survived the collapse of the towers, and a large storm, and was nursed back to life. This is right next to the South Pool. We also saw lots of cops with guns protecting the memorial site, and tourists. We had to wait ages to get in, and go through X-Ray security like the airport.

We are very glad that this type of violence hasn't happened in New Zealand. This attack killed 15 x more people than died in the Christchurch earthquake. This is almost as much people as live in Waimate, where my Dad grew up.
